Urbanisation has been registering fast grow. One undesirable outcome of the growth is the increase in slums settlements which arise due to in-migration of unskilled and semi-skilled workers in search of work in the urban areas.
Thus the Departments is taking initiatives to ensure provision of physical & social infrastructure of sufficiently good quality to keep pace with economic growth. Urban Poor occupies an important place and the concerns of the poor are addressed by the ULBs through various schemes of housing under IHSDP & Infrastructure Development through UIDSSMT schemes in addition to various employment generations and health schemes. Special care are taken for the unprivileged sector of the urban people SC/ST/OBC & minorities.
Accordingly the initiatives are taken for holistic approach with adequate coverage of health, education and employment aspects along with empowerment of women & child care. Improvement in delivery of civic services through various administrative reforms are also taken up.
In view of the need of basic urban services, areas of capacity building, building safety, solid waste management, Public Private Partnership approach and clean city programme are under taken.
The poor are often left behind in the development process. To hear the voices of the poor communities and involve them in planning, decision making and implementation is a major objective of the Department. At the same time the effort are made to achieve balanced growth and development between poorer and richer areas of the town and between smaller and bigger settlements.
