Sishu Siksha Kendra (SSK)
 
 
Objective:

to bring all children between 5-9 years in the municipal areas under Primary Education

Implemented By:

Paschim Banga Rajya Prarambhik Sishu Siksha Unnayan Sanstha (PBRPSUS) and the department are jointly responsible for planning, monitoring, supervision and administration of S.S.P. centres in the Municipal areas of the State (by Memorandum of understanding signed on 21.01.04)

Establishment Requirement:

S.S.P. centres may start with at least 20 recorded out of school children. Upto 40 children one Siksha Sahayika and two Sahayikas remain in-charge of teaching. The Sahayikas are remunerated [at] Rs.1,000/- per head per month. The process of teaching, total school time per day, test books etc. all are similar to those of a formal school. The cost of test books and other teaching and learning materials are borne by the State Government & PBRPSUS.

At present there are about 1200 SSP Centres with more or less 65000 learners and 2400 Siksha Sahayikas in 72 Municipal units in the State.
