Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY)
The programme has been launched during 2001-2002 by the Central Government VAMBAY aims al providing shelter or upgrading the existing shelter (or people living below I poverty line in urban slums. The target group under VAMBAY are all slum dwellers in urban lircas who are below the poverty line including members of EWS who do not possess adequate Better. In selecting beneficiaries the following reservation / percentage is to be followed.
  • SC / ST - Not less than 50%
  • Backward classes - 30%
  • Other weaker section -15% (OBC, BC. etc.)
  • Physically disabled persons - 5%
50% of the total project cost is borne by Central Government and the rest 50% is Him by ins beneficiary / ULB / State.

Nodal agencies for implementation of this programme in urban areas are different Urban Development Authorities as well as SUDA. So far SUDA is concerned, this department is the nodal department.

Development Authority

Construction of 6573 dwelling units and 20 community toilets has been completed against a target of 9675 dwelling units & 30 community toilets, in this State under the scheme. H.D.A has completed and distributed its targeted Dwelling Units numbering 1211. ADDA has completed 1670 units against target of 2000 units and 1060 beneficiaries are already residing in these houses. SJDA has completed 471 units out of targets 569 and 414 units have been distributed to Urban Slum people. SJDA has also completed 20 community toilets out of target 30 and those are being used. KMDA has completed 876 units against target 1076 in East Kolkata, B.P. Township, Tolly's Nullah, Chetla Hut & Barasat. Construction of 807 Units at Mahisbathan, Panihati (Phase II), Mahatsabtala, Nonadanga (Phase-II) has also been initiated. SUDA has completed 2345 dwelling units and 757 toilets in different municipalities through out this state under this scheme.
